Upcycling Old Store Bags Into Cute Gift Bagson February 8, 2013 at 4:30 am
So, if you’re like me and can’t seem to part with those sturdy store paper bags, but can’t always find a purpose for them, well here it is! Upcycle your old store bags into cute gift bags!
If you joined me yesterday you already got a sneak peak of the finished product (my Valentine’s Day Red Bag), but now I’m showing you how I made it!
(First, a quick little secret…the real reason why I created this bag was because I actually forgot to buy one and didn’t have any cute Valentine’s Day bags…so I challenged myself and my goal was simple: use only what I already had available at home, mostly because I was too lazy and too cheap to go buy one – hey, gift bags are expensive these days! So here it is!)
- Step 1: Start with an old store bag. Remove the handles and fold over the top.
(My bag was a cute Paper-Source bag, but since I’m a Paper-Source addict I have so many of them, so it’s ok)
- Step 2: Gather your supplies
(Like I said, I literally just used anything I had available: colored duct tape, cute wrapping paper, glue, newspaper, a ruler, a pen, scissors, and 1 page of white cardstock)
Step 3: Measure the sides of your bag and cut your paper for each side.
(I cut the front and the back about a half inch extra all around and the other 3 sides I cut about a half inch short all around)
Step 4: Glue all of the sides onto the bag.
(I used Elmer’s no wrinkle glue, which actually worked pretty good)
Step 5: Use colored duct tape to “seal” your edges. (Trick here is to measure your tape before you put it on the bag! And also, tape down the flaps on the inside of the bag)
Step 6: Create your decoration. (I glued strips of newspaper to some white cardstock, cut it out in a heart shape, outlined the edge with a black Sharpie marker and then glued the heart to the bag.)
Step 7: Punch holes for your ribbon, fill your bag with whatever you want and then tie your bow!
And that’s it! Upcycling old store bags into cute gift bags!
I hope you enjoyed!
See you soon!
